Position:Home>Dancing> How do I increase my muscle coordination?

Question:I have two left feet, and I'm sick of it. I went to a hip-hop exercise class at my gym, and was 3 moves behind everyone else and looked awkward. How do I learn to move gracefully, copy someone else's movements and increase balance?

I recently started yoga - will that help?

I don't know about dancing, but i play tennis quite professionally.
One thing that really helps with coordination is to learn how to skip.

When you skip, you should without stopping learn how to swop between different routines. Like for instance, start of skipping with both legs, after 20seconds swop over to alternating right and left leg. Then jump twice on the right once on the left and so on. If you get better start to do double skips(jump once but the rope go's thru twice very fast).

You'll notice after quite a bit of practice that it will get a lot easier and that your brain is in a lot more control over you legs

You'll also get very fit if you do this everyday

Yoga will help with your coordination and balance. I think your problem is staying with the music and learning choreography. Practice just counting the music ( 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, 2 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, 3 2 3 4...) Then add the moves. It will help you to have the pulse going, the rhythm in your head. For muslce coordination, try taking an aerobics class, step class, or something of that sort. It will help you with moves that are similar to dance moves, but will also be great exercise and help you practice following a teacher and staying with the music

Good luck, I hope I helped ( :

Yes,absolutely.
You feel you are lighter and gain better balance
and benefit your flexibility as well.

You just need to find your power house. Do ab workouts esspecially a plank. For everyday events you need coordination. Do many dance exercises.

Work on flexability, balence, and softness. My trainer always tells me to relax and look soft and don't try so hard. You need to know how to spot. People do a lot of turns in ballet. Be graceful. Practice with alot of butterflies, straddles, Overdogs (I hate that one), and durence.

yoga will definitely increase and strenghten your muscles and coordination. it is actually one of the best ways to do it. it will strenghten your core (pelvic area) and you will be a much stronger dancer with better coordination, balance and it improves your rhythm.
