Start with the splits on the floor. When you feel comfortable and don't feel the stretch then you are ready for the next step. You gradually add books to each end under your feet. Start small so that you feel the stretch. This will increase your split in your leap. DON"T start too fast with too many books, this will only damage your hamstring and you will not be able to do the splits. Need to practice every day with both sides.
It is always safer to do this with a spotter (Someone else to make sure you don't hurt yourself).
