Try something else! You've been doing highland dancing over half your life! If it's no longer rewarding, look into some other types of dance and/or physical activity. You can always go back to highland dance later in life if you decide you miss it or really like it. I stayed in piano lessons "for my mom" as a child. It made me so miserable I finally quit. But later on I tried playing other instruments such as French horn and guitar, neither of which I can no longer play! But I can still play piano.

Try another studio - dont' give up because you are discouraged with your teacher picking favorates. There are other teachers out there - after that if you are still unhappy - then find something that makes you happy.

If you like it, why don't you dance for fun instead of competition. That way you won't feel so much pressure. Maybe at this time you will have more fun learning a new style of dance. That way you can take lessons with a new teacher, meet new friends and enjoy the challenge of learning dance moves you haven't done before.

Try a different studio, I went to the nicest studio before I quit.
Called Star Struck Dance Academy in Seaville,NJ. It was amazing! The main teacher was nice ,but you have to work hard and no she does not pick favorites nor does she show she doesn't like you. Well I hope you decide to keep dancing and staying active, try the stuido out!

I had the same problem.
