Position:Home>Dancing> Dancing professionally; Am I too late?

Question:I'm 20, have completed my Grade 8 (RAD)'s in ballet with distinction when i was 16 and have been dancing hiphop ever since.I love dance and its my life! However, am seriously thinking of taking up a Bachelor of Arts (dance) degree and dancing professionally. I've realized the only way I'll ever be able to stand out is if I work my *** off and become a contemporary dancer.

Am I too late, in terms of age? I have good turn out but am not particularly flexible. And my pirouettes and spins are my weakness.

Will I have a chance at a dance career? Keeping in mind that to finish a degree requires at least another 3 years.

You are not too late. To get flexibility and overcome your weaknesses takes lots of practice and you know that. You do need to learn contemporary dancing. It will be the basis for everything else. Perhaps you have to unlearn some bad habits from hip hop.

sure will u ahve...all the best or best of luck

I think you can do anything you set your mind on and work hard to achieve.

That said, remember Dance careers are a really hard road.

It will just depend on how good you are. And like you said your going to have to work that much harder to stand out from other younger then you (its sad because you are only going to be 23 and thats still sooo young!).
You said you did hip hop dancing? Craigslist has a section called "GIGS" and sometimes (depending where you live..I live near Miami) they are asking for great hip hop dancers for their videos. You wont be too old for a back up dancer for awhile...So good luck!

Of course you will. It doesn't matter your age it just matter how much heart you put into it.
