I highly recommend that you attend THIS year's ABT audition in Minneapolis on Feb 17th. Since you don't seem to be planning on getting into ABT this year, you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. Consider the $30 audition fee to be well worth the price for furthering your dance education in what it's like to audition for this program.

Do you have practice auditioning for other summer intensive programs like ABT? Have you been ATTENDING summer programs in the past? If you don't have experience doing auditions by the age of 16, you will be seriously crippling your chances of even getting accepted. If you have not been attending any of the "big name" summer programs in the past, you have very little chance of being awarded a scholarship.

If you'll notice by the audition tour schedule, the auditions are conducted according to age level. The larger the expected attendance is, the more levels they create. So in Minneapolis, the level is for age 15 & up, while in New York the level is for 16 & up. Since you are 15 now, you can see for yourself what the top level audition is like.

My daughter auditioned for ABT (again) when she was 16 and was accepted. And although she she'd been studying ballet since she was 3, had been attending summer intensives since she was 12, including a "big name" program for two of those years, AND was awarded partial scholarships to several other programs, ABT was not one of the places that offered her a scholarship.

She had previously auditioned for ABT when she was younger and was not accepted both times. The first time was because it was her very first audition ever when she was 13 and she knew she messed up. Fortunately, she did that audition the year before she planned on seriously auditioning for programs and was very glad that she did that audition "for practice" in order to learn how to deal with nervous tension. The other rejection was most likely due to her body type, which was very different back then.

Auditions for summer programs are not like auditioning for a job or a prize; you don't have to stand out and be noticed in the same way. You just have to handle the audition well without messing up. Pretty much everyone who passes the audition is accepted because much fewer dancers actually choose to attend AND get their money in on time. As for standing out enough to be worthy of a scholarship, I'm sorry to say that it's something you either have or you don't and it would come out naturally.

The bottom line is that the key way to prepare for auditions is to GO to lots of auditions. The audition season is still in progress. Get out and get to as many auditions as you can right now.

I can't say that I've ever auditioned there. That's very exciting though! Try for the scolarship! Whats the worst that can happen? They don't choose you?! Even if they don't, hey, it's a new experience, and you got to see how ABT is run! To stand out to the auditioners, wear what they require you to. A yellow leorart WOULD make you stand out, but not how you want to stand out. ABT's website should have all of the information that you need. They'll ask for some dance shots of you, so they can see if your body is what they're looking for ect. Wear your hair in a neat bun, and just do your best! Good luck!

Well IDK for 16 year old but i'm 13 and i just auditioned in Los Angeles for ABT. This is only my second year taking ballet but I progressed quickly so you should be good enough. The class is SUPER easy and all you need to do is show the judges that you kno your basics. Your nerves really kick up in the audition room though so be prepared to reassure yourself a number of times that you kno what your doing. Also, along the lines of what to expect...there will be a lot of REALLY snobby girls there for you age group who go into the class room and start doing crazy streches and like 6 or 7 pirouettes...ignore them. And remeber not to enter the class room till invited, do simple stretches, don't stare at someone if they are amazing and a gorgeous dancer, and wear a black leotard with pink tights, ballet shoes, hair in a bun, and NO bras or panties. Also you will probably need to bring your pointe shoes into the classroom. You will also need a picture of you in first arabesque and a teacher letter of recomondation. Bring both of these to the audition. Scholarship wise i am not sure but check on www.abt.org it is a pretty well organized website.

well im 14 and i went last year ( when i was 13) and yes its REALLY hard to get a scholarship. and its also hard to get into the place that u want to go to. if ur really good, at the summer program, they'll whatch u, and will pick a few people to get scholarships for next year. hope i helped!
