Question:Today i saw our sports team preform and i really want to do kickline and looks easy and fun

i used to do swimming, dancing, gymnastics(not much tho), acro, tap dancing ect.... when i was 8(quit all of them)(10 when i quit swimming), now im 14 so im very flexible

i need more help on splits (2 inches from ground front split, 3 inches with middle split) kicking( i dont know how high i go for kick line but i do have it pretty close needing a bit more work, and what else is there that you do in kickline?

Any suggestions?

I assume you mean high school kickline (aka drill team). To make drill team, you should have good showmanship!, pretty high kicks/at least good technique, jazz technique, and your splits. They look for potential and technique a lot! At my tryouts, 20 out of 100 points were for showmanship (did you smile, do occasional facials, look presentable, walk nicely, etc...).
~Splits: for the splits, try the straddle stretch. Sit in a straddle. Reach to the right keeping your shoulders facing foward and your ear to your knee. Then rotate so that your chest/nose are to your knee. Then reach for the corner right to the inside of your foot. Stretch middle, then do on the other side. This helps a lot.
~Kicks: to help with your kicks and splits, do this. Lay on your back with your legs straight out. Have someone hold one leg by the mid-calve and push it towards the nose. Remember to keep both legs straight, your toes pointed (don't turn out or turn in, but keep the top of your foot straight up), and don't let the hip of the working leg lift up a lot.

Drill teams normally do kicks routines and jazz routines at football games/sporting events. They also might do a pom or hip hop routine as well. Normally in the spring they compete in competitions, where they typically do three dances that are kick, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, pom, or modern.

I hope my advice helped! I would look around for a drill team prep class or a jazz class to help you get basic turns and leaps, as well as improve kicks, splits, and flexibility! Good luck ( :

***EDIT*** If it is a middle school drill team, I would still do the same things but remember that most middle school drill teams are there to help prepare you for high school drill teams, therefore aren't as strict when it comes to kick height and tricks. If you don't have amazing leaps and kicks, don't be concerned because they will want a good base to build on. Focus on showmanship and technique, don't sacrifice either to try to make you kicks higher or your leaps/turns better because the judges will notice! Good luck, don't stress about it!!! ***EDIT***

I am in drill team at my school and it sounds like you have all the requirements. Our squad must be able to kick eye level at least preferably higher, so keep your kicks up there!! Do lots of stretching so that you will have your splits by try outs and being able to memorize a dance very quickly is always helpful.. most of all just be positive and have a good attitude!! Your instructor will be able to tell who is trying and who is just there to be there so show them your heart is in it! Good Luck!
I hope you make it!!

ps kickline is a ton of fun!!
