Position:Home>Dancing> I sprained my ankle, and it healed up weird, will this effect my dancing?

Question:I've been tap-dancing since I was about 10 years old. I really enjoy it, and I've been looking to get myself onto a team. Over the fall, I've sprained my ankle, and then got a knee injury two months later. I know the knee will heal up fine, but the ankle is kind of weird. I can not point my foot as far as I can the onther (only by about half an inch, but that's still alot because I can't get my two to touch the floor). I can not stand in a flam because it hurts (that's how i landed when i sprained the ankle). Doc said that sprains take a long time to heal, and my messed-up gait from the knee surgery didn't help. My therapist said that it's better to break your ankle than to sprain it because then they can go in and fix it.

It's still almost fully functional, but how do you really awesome dancer people do with sprains and get your ankles back to tip-top flexibility and strength after a sprain?

I've been meaning to try ballet for a while. just to add.

Get you a resistance band at Walmart or a sporting goods store and put it around the bottom of oyur foot as you hold both ends up past your knee. Flex your foot forward and too both sides daily stretching those tendons back out. I played college volleyball and I messed my ankle up three times. Search for resistance band ankle rehabilitation excercised on Yahoo! if oyu are confused. This is the only thing that worked for me besides stretching it on the stairs or a ramp. Put your heel on the ground beneath the steps and place your toes up on the step. Lean in and apply as much pressure as possible., Hope this helps. Good luck!

the first time i sprained my ankle ...it was bad...
then for somereason...it never FULLY healed...
it gets sprained super easy and hurts all the time
plus i have knee problems and that doesnt help

visit ur doctor or start stretching ur ankle so itll bend further like the other one.

When I was in high school, I jumped off of a step and sprained my ankle. I had a performance later that week so I figured out how to walk on the outside of my foot with minimal pain, and still have problems with my ankle because of that.

As long as you don't do anything silly like that, you should be fine.

Get a resistance band (You can find them at most dance stores, or for cheaper at Wal-Mart or K-Mart) and do exercises to work out your ankle. I always draw the alphabet, print and cursive, and it has helped strengthen my ankles and improve my point.
