Position:Home>Dancing> I'm a guy starting ballet?

Question:basically anyone got any advice for me on this?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: basically anyone got any advice for me on this?

Ok, as a professional Male Ballet Dancer, Choreographer and (now) Artistic Director, I have several pieces of advice:

1) Take AS MANY classes as possible.

2) DO NOT screw around with the females in your class; if you break one of their hearts, you will be outcast by all the others and you NEED their help.

3) As quickly as you can, find a class with other guys in it or (preferably) a class TAUGHT by a male. Men know how men move and women do not.

4) Finally, KEEP WORKING!!! DO NOT GIVE UP!!! I am living proof that any man can succeed in this field.

GOOD LUCK!!! Contact me if you need advice and help. I am glad to help.

poor you.

OMG... that's so hot... I always wanted to date this guy that was in my ballet class.... but he was gay... damn it. Dancing gives you the best body, no doubt.

Good luck, dont be surprised if you get a lot of ridicule for starting this but if really want to do it and it makes you happy then screw everyone else.

You'll get a lot of attention from the girls in your class... stay focused, especially cause you may be wearing one of those skin tight spandex leotards.

oh my god!!! that's my obssession! i love ballerinas...they're really graceful and the way they carry themselves and the posture wow!!!

keep it up!!! i think you're special, 'coz not everyone dances like ballerinas...

start it! my best friend thats a guy dances. and dancers are the fittest athletes. even though we arent athletes... but they say we are

It's not easier to become a good ballerina - takes alot of hardwork but gives you a perfect flexible body so keep working on it... Some people might make fun of ya and hurt your feelings - but if you really want to learn ballet then you won't hear it. Plus- I think ballerinas are totally amazing, they're like flying people with out wings :D

Go for it and give it everything you've got....you won't regret it. Men have it nice in the dance world. There are so few men in amateur ballet that they get all kinds of extra attention and coaching. They are also pushed into partnering a lot earlier than women. Try not to let hearing how "gay" ballet is bother you too much. Since when did sexual orientation affect dancing ability? Don't be too anxious about upper body strength, it will come. Pay attention to warm up and after class stretching - really important. Try to find a good men's teacher - preferably a retired danseur... Good Luck
