Position:Home>Dancing> How flexible should I be before starting ballet?

Question:I really want to start ballet and I'm fifteen. The problem is, I've never taken any kind of dance or gymnastics before and I'm not very flexible. I really don't want to end up humiliating myself so how should I know when I'm ready to take a class? And how should I prepare and get to be more flexible? Like what kinds of stretches? Or is it completely useless to try to start ballet at this age?

In Beginners Ballet you will learn how to stretch and you should do this everyday, before you know it you'll be much more flexible.

ballet will help you be flexible so dont worry about it
good stretches would be sit down, stretch your legs, and touch your toes

Pretty darn flexible. When I was ballet (which was six years ago) I had to be the smallest but most flexible kid there. Don't worry they will teach you how to be flexible. I'm not that sure about the stretches because that was a long time ago. Best of luck!

start stretching everyday.. slow - long stretches ... to get ur body use to those kind of movements.. once u start taking the classes it all some how comes naturally to u.. the key things to learn is how to be graceful on ur feet and throughout ur entire body...

You should problably do split stretches like putting you feet apart as much as you can and little by little you can do it ballet will help you get flexible

dont worry you can definatly start ballet at 15. when you start taking classes you will find out really quickly the stretches you need to do. after you learn them do it every day and you'll be on the way to flexibility!!

well if ur not looking for pro then give it a shot!!
ive done ballet since i was 3 so ive met people that have been really unflexible! people dont care!! ur paying to dance not make friends!! lessons only go for like an hour and u cnt talk half the time anyways so just ignore them all if they give you s***! there is no minimum of how flexible u have to be, thats what ur there to learn!!! the teacher will give u help n if u really enjoy it, you'll be glad you tried, trust me ballet is a blast!!
