Position:Home>Dancing> Any ideas for pointe shoes?

Question:I've been doing pointe for a year now. I started pre pointe July 2006. My first pair were bloch signature rehearsal and then I switched to Chacott cause i thought they were cool and they gave me a good arch. my artistic director thought i should go to freed or merlet because chacott wasnt supporting me very well. so i tried on freed, hated them and then tried on merlet. merlet is a really great brand but they dont give me a good arch at all. the shank wont break in and want a show that gives me support but still is a bit bendy in the arch and for my level. any ideas? im thinking i should go back to the signature rehearsals since there was never anything wrong with them, i just chacott sounded cool lol. thanks everyone ??

you really shouldn't pick out shoes just because the name is cool!
use the ones that work the best for you!

I would normally say stay with the shoe you were most comfortable with, but if your teacher made a suggestion otherwise, you should probably listen to her. She would know what's best. So talk to her again and see which ones she wants you in.

i agree with the first post and re-consulting your teacher. but, I also might recommend sansha. The first pointe shoes i was put in were their's and they were like combat boots they were so hard a brick couldn't have crushed them, so just stay away from the training shoes, but sansha is really convenient because on several of the models the shanks are replaceable which means going through less pointe shoes. once they're good and broken in the shank always tends to break so as opposed to getting a new pair and starting the process over you can just get new shanks lol. good luck:)

I started pointe and used Bloch Serenade, they were good beginners shoes, wide box and lasted a long time. Then I switched to a different kind of shoes and have been wearing the same kind of shoes for five years. I wear Grishko 2007, size 5, XXX, medium shank.

You could try other brands or you can try different types of shoes.

good luck

I loved my Signature Rehearsals! They were the best shoes I ever had.

I fit pointe shoes, and I'm really glad you've learned not to do that lol. You might really like grishko 2007s, just make sure to order them with a medium shank.

I find it odd that your teacher did not send you to a proffesional point shoe fitter. All of my students are sent to a proffessional pointe fitter and i have never had any issues with the shoes they have been fitted. No student is the same and can tehrefore not have the same shoe there are many brands all of which offer various shoes. You need to wear what is comfortable for you. The shoe itself does not give you the arch that comes from your foot. If your not happy with the arch you have you can buy a pro arch machine or a instep arch insole both of which i recommend are only tempoprary measures until you have worked upon the muscles in your feet, heightening the arch.

i love solo point shoes. maybe you could try a different style of freed. you could try a softer shank in merlet too.
