Position:Home>Dancing> Dance practice schedule.?

Question:I currently only dance 4 hours a week in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical. I'm 15, and started dancing when I was 14, so I've only been dancing for about a year and a half. I don't think anyone knows how serious I am about wanting to be a professional dancer, since I started so late, and I am not nearly as good as anyone else. I practice as much as I can, and I attend the most classes I can. I wish I could go to more classes, but it's too expensive. I am also on my studios Junior Company. I am in the Junior one, because I am not as advanced as the Seniors. I feel so far behind for my age, but I'm not going to give up. I want this so bad. I just really need help with some things I should practice. Can someone help me come up with a "Practicing Routine" for dance? I would really appreciate it.

starting so late is not such a bad thing. we have girls in the company who have been dancing for only 6 months. i was always told that you should try and practice as much as you can. If you come from school and don't have much home work practice ballet it should be done for as long as you would do normal home work.

to start a practice routine you should always do about 10m mins of warm up and stretching. this allows the body to become warm and less injury occurs. after this you start with some bar work that you do in class. when practicing don't try any thing that you have not been taught. after bar work move it the center and go over exercisers that you have done in classes before.

if you are working on any dancer that you need to practices get a copy of the music and practice it, this Will show your teacher that you want to dance not for fun but seriously

Well if you were to practice than you should do this dance at least twice a day. maybe start of with some stretching like you do in dance and do a lot of technical things like turns and extensions because you need to have good techniques. after that try to do some dancing that workout your cardio because some dances are very very tiring. then, go into harder things, fouettes [spelling?] scissor side leaps things like that.

the most important thing is basically to work out and stretch. you dont want to be dying at the end of a dance and you want to be flexible... i hope i helped. =]]

theres a famous male dancer( i forgot his name) but he starting to dance wen he was 27 and he was famous soon after tat. so u are never too old for anyting as long as u put your mind and effort to it. it will pay off 1 day

The only way to get good enough to dance professionally is through lots of dance classes taught by people who have professional performing experience. There are no other short cuts or work-arounds. If you can't afford to take at least 15 hours a week of dance classes during your high school years (not counting rehearsals for your Junior Company), then you'll have to do what Sabra Johnson (recent winner of SYTYCD) did: move to Las Vegas (or NYC or LA) after graduation and take lots of classes at a professional dance studio while working to support yourself.

Except for stretching exercises, there isn't much in the way of practicing that you could do on your own. Without a qualified teacher giving you corrections, you are much more likely to practice something incorrectly, which would then take more time to unlearn.

My suggestion would be to try to earn some of your own money to pay for extra dance classes or ask your dance studio if they offer any financial aid or work/study positions.
