ik ballet isnt but is the competitive kind?

yes. ballet is too.
dancers work harder than most atheletes.
we practice anywhere from 2 to 20 hours (ive even heard 40) in a week and are exhausted mentally and physically. preparing for a dance show or competition is harder than anything. you have to put yourself out there and do it in a tutu on pointe with your toes feeling like they are going to fall off and your muscles are sore, but you still smile, leap, turn and put everything you have into it no matter how much you hurt. in competitions you wear close to nothing in some cases and have to dance on floors you're not familiar with and stages that are too small to hold all of the dancers in some numbers. judges are sitting there expressionless and competitors try to trip you going on stage.

its hard as hell and anyone who says it's not a sport is ignorant.

Yes.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, dance is a sport! If you look up the definition of a sport, it will say something along the lines of a sport being any activity that requires speed, flexibility, and strength. Dance definitely requires all three!

Dancing by couples who enjoy music , the tempo and the dance do not consider it sport. It is a pastime that a couple can be close, somewhat intimate, and glide around , in time with the music and love each others company. It is an art form that many are enjoying more since "Dancing with the Stars" became so popular on TV.

It depends. In my opinion, dancing like you would do at homecoming or a wedding is not a sport. It's just something that's fun to do. Stage performing though, like ballet and jazz and balllroom are definatly sports, as well as contemperary, hip-hop, ect. and don't listen to anyone who tells you it's not. Dance takes as much or even more training, stamina and technique as sports like football and hockey. Also, in dance, you have to make everything look like it's easy and fun, even though having yout toes gushing blood is not easy OR fun. Dance also requires flexibility and balance, and I don't know many baseball players who can do a split or stand on their toes.

What do you mean competition dance is a sport but ballet isn't. Trust me competiton is hard I've done it, but ballet is so much harder. Have you seen a ballet dancer's bare feet. They hardly even look like feet, they're so demented form all the time and effort we put into our pointe work. So if any type of dance is a sport it's ballet

look me in the eyes and tell me ballet isnt a sport *****. it requires more than any competitive dance team in the world. i am stronger, more flexible and a better dancer than any competition girl. competition is for skinny little chicks who cant tough out the real stuff. so i never want to hear anyone say to me or anyone that ballet is not a sport. you be me for a day.
i was on a competition line, and i know the work isnt nearly as hard as a ballet company. but yes it is a sport. somehow football made it onto the sport list too.
next time think before you say **** like that. i was highly ofended.

YES!!!!
its DEFINATELY a sport!

Well...... yes it is a sport!! My definition of a sport is anything that involves pain and physical action.

Yes for sure!!!

Yes, dance is a sport, but it is also an art form. We basically kill two birds with one stone. While we have to be athletic to accomplish and perform some of the most amazing movements, we must also perform them beautifully. Ballet is a form of dance so it would also be considered a sport. I've had so many heated arguments with my friends over this point. Dance is just as much of a sport as it is an art form. Period.

Short and sweet: yes, it's a sport cuz it requires the knowledge of certain movements depending on the genre u choose and bcuz people always are looking for the best of the best.

ballet is a sport. the youth american grand prix is the....superbowl....of ballet. there are competitive ballet troupes all over the world! and there are also comp. dance teams, in every genre, all over the world. it is scored, judged, prizes are awarded (including large sums of CASH) and people work super hard to get to that level.

and look at a ballerinas feet, and tell me its not a sport.
