Position:Home>Dancing> Side jette - what am I doing wrong?

Question:In my dance class, I was told to do
side jettes. I don't know why it's like
this since my regular jete sometimes
can oversplit and my russian is flat,
but this time my right leg came higher
than my left (not much though).

My situation sounds exactly the same as yours. Except my left is a little higher. What helped me was to think of -jumping- into the air like what you would do doing a russian.

What this vid of Brittany Hine doing a side jete: http://youtube.com/watch?v=cVPV7eW26C8 Watch it from 00:28. Hers are AMAZING. She really does get the height from it.

Hope this helps :)

your question was a little confusing

hello kelsey
your question makes zero sense, by the way!

I had the exact opposite problem, my English (side jete, what have you) was good but my Russians suck. They still suck, after 22 years of dancing! Anyway, A big part of it is that the hips are aligned differently than in regulkar grand jete, so alot of the "oomph" goes into getting the first leg up, then rotating in the socket to bring up the second leg. The first leg has already started to lower by then! This will sound nuts, but what really helped me was to think of sliding the plit out on a table top, then I didn;t worry so much about getting the right leg up, I knew it was there, so I just had to focus on getting the 2nd one up as fast as possible.
