you have to go to a dance store, or somewhere to get your feet fitted. you won't do as well with pointe shoes that haven't been fit to your feet. since you are pretty much a beginner, i would go for capezios, which provide a lot of support. i personally wear freeds and love them, but they break really fast so, they may not be too good for a beginner. in any case, find a place to get your feet fitted for shoes, and be open to lots of different options. even if someone you know says that a certain brand of shoes suck, you personally won't know until you've tried them! :)

go to the gaynor minden website and follow their guide that you have you trace your foot and send it into them
thats ones way you can have it fitted
but be careful because they may not fit you perfectly

you can also take a roadtrip to get them

russian pointe

Its a shame theres no place near you, but I STRONGLY suggest you contact bailey slipper shoppe in Buffalo. They can talk to you over the phone and can help figure out some styles you may like. They will also probably ask you to fax a tracing of your foot. Where are you from? They'll ship anywhere!

You're should try to find the closest dance store around. (I know it's a pain, I had to go at least an hour away until a store recently moved here.) Pointe shoes need to be professionally fitted, especially your first pair. That is the only way to ensure proper placement on pointe. Trust me, it is in your best interest to find a dance store somewhere and become familiar with it and the people there.

difficult, i'd honestly reccomend driving the distance to a dance store to avoid buying them online or through a catalog. Pointe shoes are very difficult to fit and you really need to try them on first. or see if your dance teacher can order a size and brand he or she thinks will work for you.

Please do not get Gaynor Mindens. I know they sound great, but it's impossible to practice pointe correctly in them because they don't allow you to roll through the foot, and they weaken your ankles and feet.

I noticed that one answer told you to order Gaynors online...

If you have the chance to get professionally fitted in person it is really the best. It is worth traveling to get a pair, once you get a pair that fits well you dont have to travel to get the same pair, then it would easier to buy it online. I would recomend discountdance.com and dancedepot.com for a great selection of pointe shoes, on Russian Pointe's website there is a large fitting guide that could be used to get an accurate shoe if there is no possible way to be fitted in person. Please realize that every shoe is made differently and you have to be very picky about your choice, there are so many options!
