Position:Home>Dancing> I was wandering if yall knew how to show my dance teacher im ready for pointe?

Question:your dance teacher will know when you are ready. it takes time to develop the proper technique needed for pointe work, as well as the muscle tone required. it is your dance teachers job to take your saftey first, and they will pay attention and acknowledge when your ready. even if your technique is up to par for pointe work, perhaps it is your study habits that they are unsure of. if you are looking for exercises to develop into a dancer capeable of pointe work, check out capezio's website. they have information on ther about things you should be able to do before going en pointe. pointe can be very dangerous if you are not properly trained...perhaps a pair of demi pointe shoes would help you develop further? i'm not trying to be rude, but you need to put faith in your teacher...that is why you are the student.

yea just say hey IM READY!

i had the same problem, she kept telling me i was good and i couldn't quit (cause i was gonna drop out), but then she moved everyone else up to point and kept me on flat,....my feelings were hurt but she told me its not personal, my ankles just were'nt strong enough yet and i had to wait till my body matured a bit more... maybe its the same for you?

interesting question, star for you!

i answered your question, will you answer mine?

thanks alot

well...
i've been doing pointe since i was 10. you have to be ready yourself. you have to have strong annkles. i had this girl in my dance who just joined pointe her ankles were crap. she almost broke her ankle. you have to talk to her about it first. talk to her about your ankle if you have a nice arch in your foot. if not i could give you a ilst of excercies to kind of warm up your foot and get it ready. but if your teacher thinks you are ready for it go to a really good dance store and make sure the pointe lady doesn't tell you what shoe works for you, you have to be the one saying this fits fine and stuff.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

well, i don't know how old you are, but you need to be at least 13. ask her if she thinks you are ready. then, no matter what she says, go to the doctor and get your ankles x-rayed to make sure they are in enough good condition for you to do pointe. if you don't, you could damage your growth plate and have sever problems your whole life.

also, on the day you're going to ask her about it (privately...you don't want her to be distracted) don't screw around in class.

just ask her. and you have to be at least 10 not 13. Before you ask your dance teacher, take a ruler and stand it up straight. now line your foot up with it and point it. if your arch goes over the ruler, then you might b ready. also to strengthen your ankles you can use a flex band thingy, a wide sock, or a scarf and point and flex your foot.hope it helps!! remember, it NEVER hurts to ask,it's just a little embarassing. : D

Tell her you're interested in Pointe. Ask what you need to do to prepare yourself for it because you're interested in doing it someday. Then, work hard! Not only will working hard impress your teacher, but you will improve. Don't rush pointe. I know it looks like fun (and it is!) but it's a LOT of hard work.. and expensive!

good luck! =]
