standing on one foot is good but also trying to do simple dance or warm up moves tip toeing helped me a lot. Pilates is good but yoga is also probably the best thing you'll come across that ill help you with balance (and stretching too). Balancing has a lot to do with posture so make sure your posture is correct. If not try to walk using 1 book on your head on a straight line.

Stand on one foot a lot. There's a quadriceps stretch where you stand on one leg and pull the other one up behind you to stretch that leg, and if you just do that for a few minutes each day, you'll 1) have better balance and 2) be more flexible.

Also, if this gets easy, try hopping on one foot for 15 seconds at a time while doing this.

Look at a "point" in a wall and keep facing it while you turn and for balance dance on your heels.

Dancers dance at the edge of balance, almost falling, daring to fall, but not quite. The mystery is all there. For the educated eye, the spectacle is thrilling; for the general public it is an experience they will not forget.

from an article entitled "Dancing at the Edge of Balance"

apparently, if you're feeling like your'e falling, you're doing it right. the trick must be not giving into the fear of it and stopping to catch the balance. i don't dance professionally, but I do dance drunk, which means I'm always making up new moves to cover up the fact that I was just about to face plant.
good luck!

the center of all dancing is the core. tighten it. keep the core tight. don't worry all about arms and legs, the core is what keeps them in balance. balance can be hard, but if you keep your center tight, it will become easy. this takes training, so keep working on it. go on point in fifth position, arms up. if your balance is off, tighten. work on it at home. stand on one foot. try different positions. keep practicing and your muscles will build this memory and soon it will be second nature.

"at the edge of balance" thats really when ur having a lean, stretch or reach where u leave iit to the last minute to stop yourself.
when balancing you need to use your core! ur muscle -tht keeps you balanced, also make sure your back is straight while turning -ppl can find tht there leaning back while turning-which doesnt help, make sure your ankles are strong -practice relevés on one foot, and that your knees are "pulled up"

try looking at something still or while turning use "spotting"- focus on somethnig in the room thats in key with which way your facing when your turning and try to look at it while turning and as soon as you cant look at it anymore while turning ,turn your head round to spot it again. if tht makes sense

also the most obvious thing you can do is practice!!

practice really does make perfect!

Abs are ESSENTIAL for ALL dances!!!! It is the essential in order to keep your balance. When you do releves, tighten your gluteus maximus muscle, thighs and legs. (Make sure you feet and ankle are already warmed up). When you do an arabesque same thing, tighten your abs, and the leg that's going up behind you tighten it and keep your turnout..the face of the foot should be face the audience/mirror/teacher. Keeping your turnout means that you need to open up your hips, the quadriceps femoris muscle play an important role in hip flexion and knee extension (which is needed when you do developpes, grand jetes, splits, arabesque, kicks,etc...) (plies usually do that) and keep the straight and strict (snob) posture. When you do pirouettes do not sickle your foot, and keep both feet on the floor before you turn.

ABS, and POSTURE--> INCLUDES EVERY MUSCLE.
Work out also a maximum your gluteus maximus. Tighten those when you do anything involving eleves, releves, piques, pointe, etc..
