Hi Balletgirl. I hope you don't mind me offering my two cents even though I don't know anyone who has attended UNC-Charlotte's dance program. As I appear to be the top answerer in Y!A in matters related to U.S. college dance programs, I haven't run across many other Y!A users who know much about the topic in general. And your chances of actually finding someone here who has 1st or 2nd-hand information is practically zilch.

There is an old thread on this program over on the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" message board:

After someone provided some feedback from 2005, a new member tried to elicit new comments this past October and no one responded. This lack of response, alone, is a form of feedback since "Ballet Talk for Dancers" is an authoritative source of information on ballet training.

Understand, however, that what comprises a "good program" is totally subjective. The most important factor is what YOU want to do with dance after college. For example, one nice feature of the UNCC program is that "students may choose to pursue K-12 licensure to teach in the public schools." Very few programs offer that option, so if that is what you're looking to do, then that would certainly make UNCC's program a good one for you. But since their program only offers a B.A. in dance and not a BFA, their ability to train students to become professional dancers is greatly diminished.

They DO offer a certificate program in conjunction with North Carolina Dance Theatre, but members of this program simply train alongside the advanced pre-pro students in the company-affiliated school, not with the actual dance company since company classes conflict with the college class schedule. The performing opportunities students get through this arrangement is much less than what my daughter gets in her BFA dance program.
