oh boy! lol you are going full speed w/this hehe. Well fa'arapu takes time to dominate if you're not used to a lot of hip action. I'd recommend that you enroll in a bellydancing class before doing tahitian. It really helps bc it'll get your flexibility working, let your hips losen up at a reasonable speed and it will make your legs stronger....much needed in tahitian!

First things first: to make your hips make those sharp moves you need to stand in the basic position (stand straight w/both legs separated at 6inches). With the help of your right leg bump your right hip up as strong and fast as you can. (This is also used in bellydancing but not as fast unless youre doing a shimmy). Try to this as smooth and subtle as you can. Otherwise it will look awkward. Do the same w/the left leg. This will help you losen your hips a little bit so you'll be ready for the fa'arapu. For the fa'arapu, stand still and w/the support of your legs move your hips in a circling motion as fast and as hard as you can. Dont rush! If you do it right slow then do it, speed will come eventually. That's key to making a good fa'arapu. There's a list of tahitian terms i can give you so at least your familiar w/them.

Tahitian isnt as easy as dancer make it look like. Even though im an experienced bellydancer i struggled a bit w/tahitian in the beginning. It's so...fast and strong. But with practice and determination it can be achieved.
