I completely understand what you are going through because I went through it too.I have worn Bloch, Grishko's, and Freed's and the hardest ones I have experienced is by far the Grishko's. Here are some tricks of the trade: To prolong the life of your pointe shoes, you should buy your shoes in strong shank, which most companies offer. Also there is something called Jet Glue which loads and loads of dancers use to prolong the life of there pointe shoes. Jet Glue makes the shoes hard again making them last longer so you don't have to buy new ones so often. Also when you break in your pointe shoes do not bend them or mold them to your feet let them break in naturally during class. Because you aren't forcing the shoe to bend causing the glue to separate the shoe will last a little bit longer. I would first recommend seeing if there is a hard shank in the shoes you are currently wearing (if you like them, there's no point in switching shoes just to make them harder), then I would buy some Jet Glue which you can buy online through many dancer retailers like Discount Dance, www.discountdance.com (under Accessories and then pointe shoe accessories). If none of these things work, then it is most likely your feet have gotten stronger and you do need new pointe shoes that would be harder and different in shape. I would also recommend talking to your dance teacher they are a great resource, and your peers that dance. Another thing find a dancer retail store that has a LARGE selection you may need to drive a ways depending on where you live, but it's worth it! You'd be surprised how often we all have the same issue in the dance world.

It depends on many factors, but some of the hardest pointe shoes are gambas (fibercarbon vs. redboard shank= more resiliance fo the shank), grishkos, sanshas, and some kinds of blochs, like the sonata.

Please keep in mind though, the life of a pointe shoe, when used several times a week, is only a few hours. Its perfectly normal, if youre dancing even three hours a week, to go through a shoe in less than a month. I went through mine in one three hour class and they were hard shanked gambas.

i think the bloch serenades are good... i've been using them since i think october or november... pretty good but i've only been sur la pointe for about 3 or 4 months so.... ya
hope i could help...
happy 2008

i use the bloch sonata pointe shoes and they are pretty good :-)

its not exactly a cure-all to go with the hardest shoe on the market. hard shanks are very brittle and dont move with your foot, so they tend to snap instead of wearing down. you can use jet glue to strengthen your shanks and box before using the shoe, you just take and apply 1/2 of a bottle to each shoe on the inside, use the brush to coat the shank and the inside of the box, and make sure to avoid the areas that are just satin. also, the shoes need to dry for at least 8 hours between wearings if they are jet glued. the really bad news about pointe shoes is the average life span of a properly fitted pair is just 8-12 HOURS of dance. if you take, say, 2, one hour classes a week, you are looking at 4-6 weeks in a shoe. your best bet is to go to a dancewear store and get a fitting. there are many styles on the market that have new, special shanks so they don't break down so quickly. you didn't specify if the shank or the box is the problem, but i assume its the shank as that is 90% of the issue i see in the store. you might find some relief from the new MKII shoes from bloch, they changed the shank on some styles, including the synergy and the serenade, to a longer lasting shank. make sure you specify MKII, though, because the regular shank is still being made. good luck...hope this helps! if your ever in metro detroit, come see me at En Pointe Dancewear & Accessories in Clawson!

Wow! First of all, if you're getting a month of life out of your pointe shoes, you should be grateful. That's pretty good!

I found that Bloch Signature Rehearsals are pretty durable. They don't work for all foot shapes, though. Definitely don't buy Freeds if you're looking for durability. I can get about 2 hours out of a pair of Freed Studio I's, but I can usually get about 3 weeks out of the Signature Rehearsals wearing them everyday for at least an hour and a half or more. And I know what you mean about buying pointe shoes all the time! Have you tried Discount Dance Supply? I order EVERYTHING from their catalog or online at discountdance.com. They carry most major styles of pointe shoes too at much more reasonable prices than the average dance store.
