There is no unacceptable age to start ballet, really. I started when I was 11, and yes, that was very old, and definitely too old for me to become a prima ballerina, but that's not what I wanted anyways. The upside is I picked up quickly, and was able to really apply corrections and work at it, but the downside was that I had already formed habits, ways of moving, standing, etc. and so I had to retrain myself. Your best bet is to find a dance studio that is friendly towards all ages and levels, and then try some classes to see what is a good fit for you. Not every studio works for every dancer, so don't be afraid to really look around for something that works. Some studios will arrange classes by level, which means you will be in a beginning level class and probably with much younger students, while some classes arrange by age, meaning you will be in a class much too advanced. Your best bet is to find a studio that arranges classes both by level and age. Worst case scenario, try taking a beginning adult ballet class; these are usually much more laid back and a great way to pick up on your basics until you advance a bit further. Above all, have fun, and good luck!

It's really late to start ballet, but don't let that stop you. You may never be a prima ballerina, but you could become very good and if it's something you would enjoy don't wonder "what if" just do it!

Your never too old to chase your dreams. Just work hard at it and don't get discouraged if others are better than you at first, remember some of them have been doing it since they could walk! GOOD LUCK SWEETIE!

Well I have done ballet since i was 3 and it is SO much easier to learn over time, so it good to start as soon as possible, but some people ( and this may be you ) just have that natural talent..........That girl that won so you think you can dance had only danced 4 years.

its never too late to start, if your really commited then you will be able to do it! It just depends on the sudio and what age group they suggest you be with.

I am a really keen dancer, i have been dancing 4 years and i moved up 2 grades this year and i felt so dumb because i knew none of the excersises that the other girls did, but i soon cottened on and its really fun when you get the hang of it!!

GOOD LUCK HUNNI!! xox

Of course. RIght now you're still young and flexible. But you better get on the ball though. Start practicing now. If my friend could start at age 25 you certainly can. It's determination that makes all the difference... i'm sure you have it

Of course it is. Some may tell you that if you want any kind of serious career, you should have started at age 5, but that's simply not true.

You may have to work harder and work extra on your flexibility, but it's really never too late to start something you love. Martha Graham began in her 20s after being told by everyone she couldn't do it, and today she is widely considered one of the world's greatest--and modern dance's foremost pioneer. Take a minute and read about her life. If you think, "I'll be 20 before I'm really good" and thus, don't try, well, then one day you'll still be 20 and you still won't be good. :)

Well of corse u can start at any age u like........i mean most ballet gurls start when the are lil round the age of 5-6 like i did.......I LOVE DANCE AND HOPE TA KEEP UP WITH IT IN THE FUTRE.......im sure u would fit in......people might stare at u the first day but they are just making sure that they dont have any competition ta work with.....but dont worry about them and what they think

If u really do luv dance/ballet then i guess u give it a shot!

i have loved ballet all my life and i think if u are pastionate about it then anything is worth giving a try!

well i started ballet when i was 17 so it's definitely not too late for you :-)

Go For It! Im 13 & When i Was 3 I Danced For About 3 Years But Then Moved To Spain Then To England & Now Im Back In Spain. I Started Dance Again About 3 Months Ago With My 2 Best Friends & We Are ith The Little Ones. Its Alright, At Least Your Doing What You Want to Do [=

You might have trouble because you are a little too old, but still, if you reaelly work at it, then go for it!

It's fine. If you are inflexible, or don't have the correct body type, you will find out soon enough, but you can still enjoy the dance. Anyway, everyone should study ballet.
