Hey! I'm en pointe. I have a lot of tips for you on pointe. I remember when I wanted pointe shoes. I wanted them really bad. When I got them, they were clean and new. Now my pointe shoes are old because I danced on them. It is hard work and really you should work hard if you vwant them because it is a big job. Pointe shoe sizes are not the same. You need to go to a pointe shoe factory to get a pointe shoe fitting because when on pointe, noone has the same feet. If you are really good, and have trained hard for several years then yes you should get pointe shoes. You should have had at least 7 years of ballet to go onto pointe. if you started when you were ten, and are really good, you can be on pointe when you are 12. Pointe make you feel light and graceful. It is a wonderful feeling to be en pointe. I'm 13. I've been dancing since I was 3. Ballet is really hard work. All the hard work pays off when you are so strong and you see those beautiful pointe shoes in your dance bag. Pointe makes you feel tall. You feel really delicate on pointe because you have to be able to lift yourself up, and take yourself down carefully again. I love pointe. It's awsome. Pointe shoes are awsome too because they are hard and they are fun to use. Here are some things you should know about pointe:

How to get an arch- The best way to get an arch is tendus. Lots of them! Stand in first or fifth position and stretch your leg out in front of you. Don't take your foot off the ground. Slide it back. Do that to the side too, and to the back. Also you can do releves. They help too. Stand in any position. Lift your heels off the ground so only the ball of your foot is on the ground. Carefully go back down again.

Darning pointe shoes- Take a needle ( a sewing needle) and stick it through the threads of the tips of the pointe shoe. This will make your pointe shoe look new and unused. If you want them to look new and unused.

Pointe shoes are made of- The tips of pointe shoes are made of satin, paper, and a coarse material called burlap, glued together. New shoes feel stiff and hard and have no left and right. It takes time and care to break them in and make them conform to your feet. You need to feel as if your shoes are a second skin. Then you will be able to "speak with your feet."

Perfect positioning- Do not try to dance on pointe until your body, legs, and feet are strong enough. Try to keep a vertical line through the center of your feet. Don't allow your feet to sickle or tilt sideways over your big or little toes. Sickling can lead to permanant injury.

Strenghten your feet, body, and legs- Sit on a chair and put marbles on the right side of you on the floor. Pick up the marbles with your toes. Do this until all of the marbles are on the left side. Then bring them back to the right side. Keep your back straight and your toes pointed.

I hope you enjoy pointe!
Keep on twirling!

What do you mean your arches are a straight line? Do you have flat feet?

stay on relive and do multiple relives to strengethen r calfs 1st then have someone stretch ur point on the floor

your feet will naturally arch more as you go on pointe. Also I bet those pointe shoes are probably pre-arched making her arches look better. Certin kinds of shoes are broken in in certain areas and make you arches curve certain ways. My arches are awful when just standing but when on pointe they are gorgeous. Try getting a Pointe shoe with a softer shank, it will mold to your foot better and make your arches perfect. Just keep therabanding.

i don't think pointe shoes are pre-arched. =) Try a lot of slow rises, including some with one foot off the ground, being sure to give your arches a good stretch. It's gonna take a lot of work to get arches like the girl in the picture, I've been on pointe awhile, and my arches don't look that good! It'll also help if you try to wear shoes with plenty of arch support. (Flip flops aren't the best if you want a better arch.) With lots of hard work you'll get great arches soon, good luck! =)

If you keep stretching your the areas around your foot, it should become more flexible over time, but thats only if you stretch it oftenly.

alot of studios purchase a foot archer like this one, it's called the pro arch

also, you can build something similar (but not nearly as fun) by using a long 2" by 4" board and looping a piece of canvas over it so your foot fits inbetween the canvas and board while your leg is straight. Make the canvas a little tighter than your foot and use apholstery nails to nail the fabric in place. Sit with your foot in this for a little while each day (with correct positions, turned out, and all... bad practice leads to bad dancing and injury)

Or, you can stick your foot under a couch with a large opening, but again, with correct positions.

Also, this website sells the product i told you how to make, and an "arch enhancer" that is good for try outs or auditions because it fools the eye. it also helps warm your arch up faster for streching.

I bought a pair a few years ago and loved the help they gave my feet.

genetics plays a fairly big role in how big your arches will get
but if like me
your not 'blessed' with naturally amazing arches there is an exercise where you get a rolled up towel, kneel on the floor, place it under your toes and pull up your knee untill you fell a stretch
good luck

It's most likely that you're going to a Vagoneva style studio. It shouldn't affect your dance en pointe if you don't have high arches. It would affect your dancing en pointe if you don't have strong ankles. try killers (just releves -- do a billion and it really hurts your calves, they strengthen your ankles). It depends on how old you are.

If you really want to improve your arch, go to sixth position and do a tondue to the front and do what every teacher tells you not to do -- put your weight onto your tondue and roll over your toes. Be careful, please! I trust as a dancer experienced enough to almost go on pointe you will be strong enough to stay balanced and not break your ankle. Anyway, your knee should be bent as you go further onto your tondue. Go as far as you dare and then KEEP YOUR TONDUE THERE as you straighten your leg and shift your weight back. BE CAREFUL. Because you are a ballet dancer and therefore the strongest kind, I am reccomending this method. This tondue should look extremely exagerated, but it will push your arch up.

Good luck and I hope I helped,
E

The concern of the arch has always been considered by ballerinas, but obviousness of practice is true.

The majority of ballerina's today have a horrible arch while preforming due to a lack of strength and loss toe pointing, as well as the strength in the legs. Keep the legs straight, and never sickle. Purchase a pair of demi-pointe's in order to have the feet accustomed to the formation of the pointe shoes through the point of the foot and it's technique. Demi-pointes should never be danced on pointe due to them only be served as practice.

When fitted to the pointe, begin classes with warm up and during such time, and intervals between, wrap on foot over the other, having the top of the toe on the ground. Then slowly bend, and stay within the position for a minute, slowly rise and repeat with other foot. This exercise is extremely good for the arch, and the breaking in of the pointe shoe also contributes to a beautiful arch.

I have been on pointe only for two years and a half (dancing a total of 9) and the exercise and pure practice has given me a great arch.
