Position:Home>Dancing> How can I improve my straddle split?

Question:I have been dancing for 6 years and I'm pretty flexible. I can do regular straight splits on both sides, but I can't go all the way down in a straddle. Any ideas?

I had the same problem for a few years until I started doing these streches:
-Lay on your back with your tailbone up against a wall with your legs in the straddle strech for ten minutes. It's gonna hurt, but it really works.
-Lay on your stomach with your knees bent and the soles of your feet together. Work on bringing your feet to the floor, so that your hips and feet are both flat on the ground.

These streches are going to take time, and they're going to hurt, but they really work. Give them a try and good luck!!

Well...practice always helps, but here are some exercises to help...
1. stand up with you legs spred appart, slowly go down to you strattle, stop when you can't go down any longer, hold you self using your hands, this will help you
2. lay on you stomach, put you legs behind you in a butterfly position, push you legs out farther, this will hurt but will help you a lot
3. keep doing those exercises each day hope this helps
