Position:Home>Dancing> Ballet! Pointe shoes?

Question:I want them bad. they are painful at first, but it looks more graceful. My instructer said " You should get them soon." So I am working hard, but still not so great! Are Pointe shoes sizes the same as regular shoes? Thanks! And should I get pointe shoes soon? Sooner or later he said.

I remember when I wanted pointe shoes. I wanted them really bad. When I got them, they were clean and new. Now my pointe shoes are old because I danced on them. It is hard work and really you should work hard if you vwant them because it is a big job. Pointe shoe sizes are not the same. You need to go to a pointe shoe factory to get a pointe shoe fitting because when on pointe, noone has the same feet. If you are really good, and have trained hard for several years then yes you should get pointe shoes. You should have had at least 7 years of ballet to go onto pointe. if you started when you were ten, and are really good, you can be on pointe when you are 12. Pointe make you feel light and graceful. It is a wonderful feeling to be en pointe. I'm 13. I've been dancing since I was 3. Ballet is really hard work. All the hard work pays off when you are so strong and you see those beautiful pointe shoes in your dance bag. Pointe makes you feel tall. You feel really delicate on pointe because you have to be able to lift yourself up, and take yourself down carefully again. I love pointe. It's awsome. Pointe shoes are awsome too because they are hard and they are fun to use. Here are some things you should know about pointe:

Darning pointe shoes- Take a needle ( a sewing needle) and stick it through the threads of the tips of the pointe shoe. This will make your pointe shoe look new and unused. If you want them to look new and unused.

Pointe shoes are made of- The tips of pointe shoes are made of satin, paper, and a coarse material called burlap, glued together. New shoes feel stiff and hard and have no left and right. It takes time and care to break them in and make them conform to your feet. You need to feel as if your shoes are a second skin. Then you will be able to "speak with your feet."

Perfect positioning- Do not try to dance on pointe until your body, legs, and feet are strong enough. Try to keep a vertical line through the center of your feet. Don't allow your feet to sickle or tilt sideways over your big or little toes. Sickling can lead to permanant injury.

Strenghten your feet, body, and legs- Sit on a chair and put marbles on the right side of you on the floor. Pick up the marbles with your toes. Do this until all of the marbles are on the left side. Then bring them back to the right side. Keep your back straight and your toes pointed.
How old are you? I am a ballet teacher, and at my school we offer a class for those who are interested in going on pointe. The girls are typically 10 or 11. I would go to a local pointe shoe fitter, and ask your instructor to come along as well. He can give you advice on the fit of the shoe. Always get your first shoes professionally fitted. I was twelve when I first went on pointe, the rule at our school was that we had to have danced there seriously (at least three classes a week) for five years. I wish you the best of luck! This is such an amazing time in your ballet career, cherish it! God blesss!
i have been danceing on point for 4 years now altho my dance teacher does not teach eunf point for what i like she always said that you should not be going up on point till your instructer says that you are ready to get your first pair of point shoes which is the best feeling in the world when your trying them on. its funny my fingers were more sore them what my feet were. When i started point i found that it didnt hert nearly as much as what i thought it would my feet would cramp a little bit but then it would pass i did the least amount of comlaining in my class i wanted to be up on point since i saw my first ballet. it all depends on you and how much you practis with them because the more you go up on point and practis what you learn in class the better you will get and the ferther ahaid you will get. im no professional dancer i just dance for fun and to stay in shape i wish i was at the level that im at now when i was 13 then i would have more time but im graduating highschool this year and well there is no way i could ever dance profeshanly so i just injoy it and if your not haveing fun when you dance then its not worth the time and the pain.
If your instructor says you're ready, go for it! I've been doing pointe awhile now, and I love it! It barely hurts at all for me now. Generally pointe shoe sizes differ a little from your regular street size, for me at least it hasn't been a big difference. Good luck!! =)
it has been so long since i have done pointe.. i remember that it was eaither 2 sizes smaller or bigger than you regualr shoe size... but i would double check with whoever you buy the shoes from. when i got shoes i didnt get the split soles... but i think they would have been alot better on developeing my arch in my foot.. so i would sugest the slit soles.... also you are going to want to get toe pad with them... and honestly i would get the GEL ones i prefered those the best over the wool ones that they gave me... i actually hated those to be honest!!! i would start to get them right away if your teacher told you to get them only because the more you practice the better you get and you NEED to get alot of practice on pointe because it is very hard!!! and it will hurt just so you know but you need to suck it up and get used to the pain eventually your foot will start to develope and it will hurt less and less...
