Question:

Where are all the ancient shields, helmets, swords of the old Romans?

I ask myself where are they all? The old Roman army had thousands of soliers, many of them even had gold decorated helmets (that won't rust in gold!, so would be saved for all the centuries).
In wich museum is the biggest collection of that?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: most of it was reforged and used with other conquering armies after the fall of rome.

rome didn't just fall in 5 minutes and have everyone just decide they weren't going to be a super power anymore....

many of the armies of rome were conquered in small pieces, and everytime a group of people were conquered, the conquering army would commonly take the good and supplies, sheilds, helmets, swords, food, sometimes clothes, anythign useful from the people they were conquering in battle. this was called booty often times. much of it was reused, and much of it reforged.

because there was no mass defection from rome all at once, it was not collected in one place. I believe there are random artifacts strewn in museums throughout the world. there is a museum in modern day rome which has a section about history of rome and I know they have some of the surviving pieces.
