Recommend a book or two?

I'm 17 and really enjoy reading, its just that I can never find a bok that sounds interesting enough based on the back description, so would you recommend something that you's think I'd like?
The Hobbit is my favorite book andthe last book that I read and really liked was The Valley of the Dolls.
I'm not into sci-fi so much, no vampires and demons and all that.

It is about several kids who are home alone when a fire comes and they have to help each other get away. I think the kids range in age from 3 to 16 years old
