Hi , Can anyone tell me what literary fiction is?
And what is genre fiction?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Literary fiction is fiction that is 'serious' literature...literature that has literary merit...e.g., stuff that would be nominated for, or win, a literary prize, stuff that would be taught in an English class.

Genre fiction includes stuff like romace novels, mysteries, sci-fi, etc. Most genre fiction is "beach blanket" books. Easy, breezey reads that are not serious.

Authors like Ian McKewan, Joyce Carol Oates, John Updike and Toni Morrison write books that would be considered literary fiction.

Daniel Steel (romance) and Sue Grafton (mystery) are two examples of genre fiction writers.
