Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There were three principal Latin American revolutions for independence in the early 1800's. The Mexican War of Independence was begun by Hidalgo in 1810, and continued after his execution in 1811. In 1821 they finally defeated the Spanish. Simon Bolivar was the leader of the revolutions in modern day Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Beginning in 1817 he led several successful battles against the Spanish and created the nation of Gran Colombia, which consisted of Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. The other major revolution was in the Southern Cone. The Argentinian, Jose de San Martin led the revolutionary army in Argentina and Chile and he fought with Bolivar in Bolivia and Peru. |
