Question:

I heard that the Southerners killed Yankees?

about two Yankees for every one Southerner killed.and 78.000 ennocent Southern civilians were murdered by Yankees and about 2000 Yankee civlians were killed in that war is this true?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: A kill ratio of nearly two Yankees for every one Confederate is incorrect, and I am not familiar with the other numbers. I do know, however, that the southern civilian death toll was atrocious, this was due to the fact that the majority of the skirmishes and battles transpired on southern soil. McPherson, Battle Cry of Freedom (1988), records an approximate civilian death total of 50,000.
United States: 360,000
Confederacy: 260,000
TOTAL: 620,000
Civilians: 50,000

Sources for the below numbers are from Fox's Regimental Losses, United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Library of Congress: American War Casualty Lists and Statistics

Union Casualty Estimates:

Battle deaths: 110,070
Disease, etc.: 250,152
Total 360,222

Confederate Estimated Losses:

Battle deaths: 94,000
Disease, etc.: 164,000
Total 258,000
