Question:

If I were to start film directing, what kind of camera would I have to equip myself with?

how much $ would it cost? (estimates here)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You can probably get started with a min-DV to start.

Film cameras (Arri, Eclair and the like .. 16mm) are VERY expensive without the lens. Raw stock, processing (one-light prints) and post production equipment can get very expensive, very quickly.

Actually as a director, you should be able to find a budding Director of Photography who already has the equipment and an editor who owns the post production equipment as well.

I purchased a Canon XL1, lenses and location sound recording equipment plus a post-production editing system for under $140k a few years ago.
