Question:

Oboe Comparison... Yamaha or Buffet?

i have it down to 2 (FINALLY! :D). take a look:

http://www.wwbw.com/yamaha-yob441-series...

http://www.wwbw.com/buffet-model-4052-ob...

at the moment i'm leaning more towards the Buffet cuz it doesnt seem too much different, has the coating to protect the wood, and is cheaper

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There are two things I'd like to point out:

1. Check the resale value of each instrument. This is not an issue for you now, but it may be when you buy your next instrument. I noticed that you re getting much more of a discount with the Yamaha and the price difference is only about two hundred dollars in the end.

2. Talk to a repair person and find out how much harder that instrument with the plastic resin will be to fix. Sometimes it makes no difference at all, and sometimes it makes all the difference in the world, so it would be in your best interest to ask.

The Yamaha seems to offer you many more choices as far as the material you prefer for the body and head joint. If the only discriminating factor is the price and you are getting something like eight hundred dollars off of the Yamaha, it seems like it would affect how much you can get for the instrument when you step up to the next model? Just a thought.

I just thought of one more question to ask. Which instrument is going to get you taken more seriously as a player?
