Question:

Is it possible to use a home scanner to print B & W as well is colour negatives. If so how please?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If your home scanner is equiped to handle negatives, you can do either color or B&W.

The scanner must have a "backlighting" capability to shine light through the negative, and a fixture to hold the negative straight and flat.

If your scanner has those features, set up any physical scanner changes for negatives, insert the neg to be scanned, and then launch the software that controls your scanner.

Then set the scanning specs for negatives. (My Epson 4870 allows for Document Type "Film", Film Type "Positive (slides), Negative Color or Negative B&W". )

Then choose quality settings. Use either 8 or 16 bit Grayscale for B&W, and a resolution of 1200, 2400, or 4800 ppi depending on how big you want to print. (Higher res for bigger prints)

If your scanner has Dust Removal software, select it (or clean the neg beforehand).

Now start the scan. Depending on your software, you may choose where to save the pic now or go right into your photo editing software.

Make any editing adjustments, save and print.

Good Luck
