Question:

What are the best songs for musical auditions?

I am going to go and audition for high school musical but i haven't really done a musical or even auditioned for one so what song should i sing.
P.S. i just saw high shcool musical so i don't think i can do any song from their.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: My best suggestion would be anything BUT 'On My Own' from Les Miserables or anything from Chicago. This song has been sung to death, and even if you sing it well you may find the casting director wincing from having heard it so often.

It depends entirely on what show your school is doing and what voice type you have. Are you a soprano (super high voice) mezzo soprano (medium high) or alto? Consider that, you reeeaally don't want to choose a song out of your range and strain yourself during your audition, especially when you will already be nervous.

I can't remember the name of the 'bad' female lead who tries to steal the show, but perhaps something from the musical Wicked? It will show off your sense of humour, the song Popular is great and will give you a chance to show off your voice.

If you are going for the lead, perhaps something from Miss Saigon? It hasn't been heard as much as Les Miserables, which will be very much welcomed by your casting director.

Good luck!
