Position:Home>Arts & Humanities> Surname 'Goopio'???

Question:

Surname 'Goopio'???

anyone know the origin of this surname??
what culture does it sound like?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I find it repeatedly coming out of the Philippines and Italy. Best guess is that it was originally Gupillo, where the 'LL' in Latin languages (like Italian and Spanish) gives that "y" or "i" sound.

I tend to doubt the "G債pio" in Polish. I've checked several of the databases and there's nothing remotely resembling it from Central Europe. Since the exact spellings of "Goopio" are coming from both Italy and the Philippines, I lean in those directions until the research proves otherwise. But obviously, you need to research your own family back to your immigrant ancestor and find out his exact ethnicity in order to prove your own heritage.
