Question:

This makes no sense, why??

This makes absolutely no sense to me. I can't submit unsolicited material to an agent or film studio. Okay so I find out what I have to do to be able to to submit my screenplay to a film producer or a film studio. I discover I can't without becoming a member of the "Screen-Writers Guild" . Okay so I learn what it takes to become a member of the Screen Writers Guild. You have to have a membership with an accredited agency for at least one year, and pay a membership fee of $3,000.00 dollars to join. Okay so I call an agency and ask what I have to do to become a member, they ask me who's my manager? I say I don't have a manager! They say "I'm sorry but in order to become a member you must have a manager or agent. WTF???? I'm surprised anyone has been able to get into this ludicrous industry!! Or is it because they know someone??

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Talent plays a greater part than luck. If you are good and have good material, then an agent will WANT to represent you. Then your material will get submitted where the agent knows material is getting accepted. You don't get to walk n to Louis B. Mayer's office, plunk down your script, and him read it and say, "You're hired!" You have to go through the proper channels.

And if you think this one is strange, to get in to Actor's Equity, you have to be in an Equity show, but in order to get in an Equity show, you have to be a member of Equity. ???? Talk about a Catch - 22!
