What is the title of this book about robots guiding humanity to solve their problem?

I read a satire years ago that looked at the history of humanity, especially the story of Jesus Christ from the point of view of two robots sent to fins a cure for their only physical flaw. These robots are seen as angels by humans. The robot characters are named Gabby and Mike, I believe. I'd appreciate any help.
