Position:Home>Arts & Humanities> Old German computertechnology?Question: Old German computertechnology?I just heared they had an analog computer in WW II, namely the Kommandoger㤴. How advanced was german computer science in those days compared to the American/English level? Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It was not really a computer in today's sense but a mechanical decive changing spark and fuel delivery in airplanes. "The Kommandoger㤴 is an amazing piece of engineering. I think you really have to study its working to grasp exactly how sophisticated a piece of machinery it is in reality. " "The Kommandoger㤴 took into account everything from spark advance to fuel delivery. It did it according to the actual altitude and airspeed as >>>measured by barometric sensors. <<< It was not a "recipe" calculator. Inputs did not happen according to a preset table but rather changed based on real world conditions to optimum performance considering multiple factors. These settings were calibrated at sea level and checked according to a chart by the pilot before take off. " http://www.white1foundation.org/parts/ko... http://www.white1foundation.org/parts/ko... Still German Technology in WWII was very advanced for its day. They invented the first Jet, the Me-262, big advances in rocketry as well. Werner von Braun, who probably should have been prosecuted as a war criminal, was welcomed by the USA and became US citizen, member of NASA and was in no small measure responsible for the success of the Apollo program. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wernher_von... Other German engineers made it into the Russian Space program. |
