Question:

Is it worth it . . . all this striving to get stuff, surround ourselves with objects. It makes no sense -?

I'm getting tired of owning things, maintaining them, recycling them, being measured by what I own - it's all emptiness and diversion. I want to throw it all away, but then what do I do without the diversion, facing the stark emptiness of life?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You won't find any meaning in consumerism or ownership of things. The idea is to derive use from ownership of an item, not seek satisfaction from possession.

If you want to try a new sense of things, explore minimalism. Purge yourself of extranious items and keep only what you need to survive. Don't make things your security blanket, leave the confides of you dwelling and find solice in the big bad world outside your door. With so many clubs, social organizations, libraries, schools and peer networks out there you would be guilty of laziness for not trying to engage your mind on activites to cure that empty feeling.
