Question:

Romantic photography?

So, I've got a girl I like, and I want to do something special for her. I'm an amatuer photographer, but only amateur because I don't get paid for it. I can take some really good pictures, and have my own higher-end 35mm. I'm comfortable with the challenge, but I want to know what would work best for a romantic setting. Anyone, especially ladies, that could give advice about a good pose, or a setting, or prefered lighting, would be appreciated, and anyone that knows more about photography and can suggest me some good lighting conditions, film type, expose/f-stops, and all of the other specifics, would be even more appreciated. I plan on going black and white, and am willing to include pretty much anything, up to and including the semi-erotic and horribly sappy romantic. Thanks in advance!

I will send you off to the lighting aspect of your answer.

Do a google search for "high-key" and "low-key" fine art photography

The sites that come up should get you started on seeing some of the lighting options you have and ideas for presenting your vision of romance, erotic imagery and sappy fantasy shots.

I use incandescent light to shoot nudes because it gives me a much better idea of what the light is doing to the shapes and textures of the models body.

I shoot with either Kodak High-speed IR film (outdoors usually around old abandoned buildings) or Fujifilm ACROS 100 ISO and sometimes, 3200 ISO Kodak stock.

When shooting with a long lens, I like to isolate the model from the background by shooting with a wide open aperture. Full figure shots I sometimes use a wide angle lens stopped down to at least f/11 (when shooting with available light ... usually diffused sun light sometimes referred to as Northern light, I use the 3200 ISO film)

The lenses I use most are the 24-85mm f/2.8~4.0 and 105mm f/2.5.
