Question:

Finding your family tree -- how to I find a reputable person..?

that can carry out the research of finding out my family on my mother's side? Is there a name or organization? How do I go about finding a person with those credientials, I don't want someone that does not know what they are doing and that are professional and have experience?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You could try through your local genealogy organization (check at the library) or your local LDS family history center. But do you really have that much money to spend?

Family trees aren't "found" unless someone else in the family has already done the research. Have you asked around who's your family's historian? I recommend you try genealogy research for yourself - in the first place you'd be asked to ask your living ancestors about their parents and grandparents' full names, dates and places of births, marriages and deaths.

At this point you'd have about covered the 20th century. You would next need to order genealogy copies of the documents for those events - a researcher cannot do that for you, a descendant must. Those docs will give you one more generation back on each. You won't find much "vital stats" like that though beyond the 20th century, you'll begin researching historical documents such as censuses, at least. Voila, you're now your family's historian!
