Question:

Pole Dancing, let's continue the discussion?

It's like many other things that women have to face in society; it has been stigmatized to further control and oppress women's sense of empowerment and sexuality. I am an educated and successful woman, and feminist who happens to have a magnificent sparkling pole in my home. I have taken classes at a women's fitness center and now work on my own at home. It is fun and intense exercise that continuously challenges me and my body. Unfortunately, I have faced this spoken stigma often and I have realized that there is nothing that can be done about it except breaking it down by being open, honest and raising awareness.

The whole truth: Until women can come together and not allow our choices, bodies and sexuality to be controlled by what our patriarchal society determines is appropriate, we will continue to be objects of desire not thinking, feeling humans who have desires.

The dichotomy of feminism and pole dancing can be folded into the paradigm of today's woman. The key ultimately is embracing all the facets of one's self and not being lead by society (and really, it's the media). The struggle for women in the past 30 years has not so much been the issue of sex and sexuality but the difficulty in using the power gained. Power Abuse by women is rampant here in America with little accountability, hence: the righteous babe.

As far as your "whole truth" paragraph, I am saddened you have not included men in your description at all -- let's not be overly narrow when looking at the broader picture.

Few today would see a feminist of any ilk doing pole dancing as a contradiction -- however, I would like to ask: who is your audience?
