Question:

Anyone know the Chinese character for "Mother"?

I am looking to get the Chinese character for "Mother" tattooed on the top of my right foot. I want to make sure what I get ACTUALLY says Mother :) Anyone...anyone??

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: there are traditional and simplified writings for Chinese characters, people generally use traditional writings for tattoos as the traditional writings has more artistic strokes and the characters are more meaningful than the simplified ones. ?親 and 媽媽 both means "mother". ?親 (mu-chin) has a more formal meaning of the word "mother", 媽媽 (mama) is more like a daily use when we call our mother "mummy" or "mama". They both means "mother", It is up to you to choose which one you prefer.
Just like English writimgs, there are also many types of artistic fonts for Chinese writings.
I have uploaded a picture with more font options for the word ?親 and 媽媽 for you. Take a look , You may choose the one you like best for your tattoo.

You can tell that all of them are the same character , but in different forms of writing, Except the last font in the bottom left, they look different from the others because they are very ancient Chinese fonts from the ancient chinese emperor days thousands years ago. These kind of ancient fonts are not used for writting in mordern days anymore, but some people like to use them in art work and tattoos, as they are more unique.
i hope that my answear is helpful, good luck!
