Question:

Losing motivation in school, because I want to do music? Advice??

I'm a performer, and I want to pursue a career at it, but I"m in school now and I'm losing my motivation in school, becuase I want to solely fucos on becoming a performer-its all I think about, I can't even study because of it. Has anyone been through this? Any tips on what I should do?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Use your love of music to motivate you to stay in school. I did and I will never regret it. If you truly want to perform, you need to understand the political, cultural and historical references to the pieces you are performing. You need to understand and appreciate the science behind what you do, why you are able to do it, and how you can improve or do it better. You also need to understand how to support yourself, manage your money, and protect your investments so you have the latitude to choose your projects and not waste your time on meaningless busy work.

There is one word for a person who focuses solely on performance "Burnout!" The list of people who died young or live in poverty because they never developed a wide range of interests, is mindboggling. If you don't understand every aspect of your craft, you will be victimized by those who live only to make a profit off of what you do, and do not care about your well being at all! Think about it.
