Question:

What's the difference between a Preface and an Introduction? Which one should I use in a Guide Book?

I have been asked to put a guide book together, it's about directions of the new city my company is working in. I haven't wrriten anything since high school - so when I read the last guide book written it had an introduction and another had a preface, so I'm worndering what's the difference.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Introduction Means Something spoken, written, or otherwise presented in beginning or introducing something, especially:
a.A preface, as to a book.
b.A basic introductory text or course of study.

Preface Means 1]a preliminary statement in a book by the book's author or editor, setting forth its purpose and scope, expressing acknowledgment of assistance from others, etc.
2]something preliminary or introductory: The meeting was the preface to an alliance.

See there is not a much difference between these two words but still you should use "Preface".
