Question:

What should I read for US history summer reading?

I have the choice of either:
New York Burning: Liberty, Slavery, and Conspiracy in Eighteenth-Century Manhattan by Jill Lepore
or
Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph J. Ellis

I'm leaning towards Founding Brothers, but I'm still not positive. Any suggestions for what I should read/not read?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I haven't read either of them, but I'd go with Founding Brothers too. Revolutionary topics will turn up earlier in the class than the stuff the other book covers, so it might be more immediately relevant.

Plus it's always beneficial to have an extra-good grasp of where something began, and the principles on which it's founded. Then you always have a good point to compare the rest of that place's history to.

Also, the other book seems to have a more specific focus, while Founding Brothers seems to be more general. I doubt you'll have questions about the conditions of 18th century Manhattan on a test, but you'll definitely have questions on the American Revolution.
