Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Modeling is one of those things that you either have it or don't. And even if you do have "it" it is matter of just working and working till you get noticed. There are much competition so don't expect to make tons of $$ right away.

Also starting in top market (NYC, LA, Paris) is difficult. This is where all the top models from other cities to compete. And the rent her (in NYC) is impossible. So start out in your own city. Get serious and spend some $$ to get yourself started by having serious pictures taken by pro photographer. If you don't believe in yourself enough to spend some money others will sense it and they probably won't spend their time on you either.

They have tons of independent models and you can do the same. There's no short cuts. Some people do get lucky and go from nobody to mega star. But many long time models do tons of small jobs and last to their twilight modeling years (about age 25 to 30).

If you are a flake, you won't survive. But if you are competitive and disciplined (never show up to shoots late, show up to all calls ready, give respect to small and big photographer, have good working attitude, etc.) you can make a living as a "professional" model.
