Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Good question. Brown eyes have brown pigment, of course. Blue eyes have little or no pigment. It's an evolution thing. People who's ancestry goes back to areas around the equator developed brown pigment to help reduce the more direct and brighter sunlight that can damage eyes. Northern Europeans, who evolved higher up on the planet, where the sunlight is less intense, had no need for the adaptation.
