Question:

Why is death so suprising?

Why is death so surprising? When it happens all the time

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Deaths, even when expected, shock us because we are tribal by nature, & when someone dies, it changes the social paradym. We are thrown off by someone's death, (even by those we did not like, or never even met), because it changes the structure of our social setup, & changes our relationships with those around us: we all, in some way, then take on new positions among ourselves. Some are forced to become leaders, caretakers, surragate parents, etc. In other species too, (the giraffe, in nearly all cat populations) which are tribal, you see the same reaction and change.Death changes social structure, as well as making us realise our own mortality as well. :)
