Any other Brer Rabbit fans out there?

It's a crying shame that these books are tarred, so to speak, by the ethnicity and opinions of their author. Whatever may have been the personal opinions of Joel Chandler Harris, the books themselves are not racist at all - in fact Brer Rabbit and some of the others resemble the trickster figure or Anansi the spider getting back at the oppressor. Sad that these books are unavailable when things like the witless and genuinely racist Lord of the Rings go from strength to strength.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: "Born and bred in the briar patch! "My grandmother read me the Brer Rabbit tales when I was little, and I never put a racial slant on them. I do agree that Brer Rabbit is like the Road Runner; a trickster.
