Question:

In what ways did President Truman's handling of the blockade lead to greater Cold War tensions?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well if you are talking about the Blockade of Berlin, the Berlin Airlift defeated the purpose of the blockade which was to deny access to food, water and medical supplies to the West Germans living in Berlin, (Berlin is situated so that parts of it are actually in East Germany) The ability of the American Air Force to supply the Berliners was a sticking point with the Russians who were trying to get them to capitulate and become part of the East. Had Truman (or Eisenhower when he was still commander of European Theater) listened to Patton this might not have been a problem. Patton knew the US would eventually have to fight the Russians and wanted to take his tank corps into Berlin ahead of the Russians and then take them on before they had a chance to rebuild. He was of course told no and the rest is Cold War History
