We involve ourselves in others affairs to protect our national interests.

A person can lose their land, bought and paid for, if the government says national interests need his land, and they need not pay him anything or even as much as it is worth.

US enterence in WWI &II, the Spanish American WAR, Korea, Etc.... are all, in one form or another part of manifest destiny and National interest.
